9-5 years old! Our Nature Center Preschool supports young children's investigations and ignites their passion for learning.
Nature Center Preschool teachers actively explore the Center's diverse habitats on frequent trail walks, as well as visits to meadows, fields, and woods.
Indoor activities include visiting live animals, experiencing the assorted collections of the Center and exploring different parts of the building, including the EcoZone exhibit area and Coe's greenhouse.
Responsible for the planning, execution and overall operation of a high quality, innovative Early Learning classroom which will include promoting the South Shore Natural Science Center (SSNSC) mission, YMCA core values, encouraging life-long learning, and instilling respect for the natural environment.
Nature Center Preschool at SSNSC is dedicated to awakening an interest in the outdoors and engaging children in learning through exploration and observation of the outdoors through its program.
Incorporate outdoor learning and activities in the curriculum.
Candidates must be reliable, self-motivated, creative team players with strong organizational skills and an attention to detail.
Interest in local natural history and the outdoor environment is important for imparting enthusiasm of the outdoor environment to children.
Completion or in process of attaining an Bachelor's degree from a community college or university in Early Education or related field is preferred.
Knowledge of environmental education techniques and/or an interest in applying these to early childhood education preferred.
Familiarity or willingness to learn about NAAEE guidelines for excellence in early childhood environmental programs is encouraged.
Minimum of teacher qualifications from the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) Knowledge and experience with the Department of Early Education and Care regulations, QRIS Standards and Core Competencies.
Willing to work outdoors for extended periods of time, in varying terrain and weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to:
climb, walk nature trails, be outdoors, run, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period of time, walk, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity.
